wait, weight.

I am currently 59kg.

On some days my mind would be brought back to the time I was 90kg heavy – unhappy, unhealthy and undeniably embarrassed to face people or to have my pictures taken.

I am contented to be where I am right now – happy, healthy and confident socially and emotionally. Now I am praying I will be able to maintain this weight because the wedding is….. Less than 11 months away, gasp!

what’s cooking?

Some of my family and friends thought that I went on a crash diet and avoid food just to lose weight. Ya Rabbi, don’t they know that I love food tooooo much to even avoid them?

So I finally came up with a solution. I will snap pictures of the food I eat and shove show it to them if they ever assumed that I am losing weight the wrong way.

This was my dinner for today:

I marinated cod fillet in Nandos’s hot chilli sauce plus a sprinkle of salt and grilled them using Happycall pan. Steamed egg tofu and french beans as sides. Food is not complete without….

My mother’s sambal kicap, yummy.

Meal was definitely filling, although this mouth is itching for some good, seedless green grapes. Nanti pergi Sheng Siong beli ah.

Since I’m at the topic of healthy eating, I wanna share this app that I find very useful in my weight loss journey:

All Recipes Video Cookbook is a perfect tool for visual learners like me who can never get recipes right just by reading the ingredients and instructions. This app allows me to search for recipes with such ease, that I’ve ditched my Ellen marathon on Youtube and watch this every night before going to bed. Sorry seh Ellen.

They show you step-by-step on preparing the recipes and also provide suggestions to improve it along the way. my personal favourite is the stuffed mushrooms because I love mushrooms so much, I would marry it if it was a guy (then must change url to bridecendawan).

And one plus point which I really love – they actually show the calories for each recipe, yippee!

Awesome tak? But the only downside is that this app is only downloadable via iTunes 😦

7 more kg to go! Now I know what “So near, yet so far” means.

weight (not much) woes.

Tomorrow will be the 8th month I have been on my weight loss journey and I am loving the results so far (if only I can show pictures to you guys nyehehe)!

https://bridebarista.wordpress.com/2013/03/30/weight-woes/ –> when I lost 12kg.

https://bridebarista.wordpress.com/2013/05/14/weight-woes-part-deux/ –> when I lost 19kg.

As of today, I have lost a total of 26kg. Alhamdulillah, syukur! Honestly, I am loving my current lifestyle so much. I enjoy waking up early to prepare a filling breakfast and if I have the extra time, I would whip up,a quick healthy lunch to pack to work as well. Dinner will be simple – muesli bars with yogurt or fruits with vitasoy, before I start tutoring from 7 to 9pm.

Clothes wise? Never in my life would I imagine getting to wear S-sized clothing. Just yesterday I dropped by Bershka (they are having crazy, crazy sale!) and grabbed a few sizes of the same type of blouse, only to realize that S fit me perfectly.

I shouted, “Baik ah!!” in the changing room and walked out with muka kucing Cheshire.

Right now, I am trying to set a consistent exercise routine during weekends, on top of my long walks on weekdays. A bit of a challenge to achieve that for now, but hey, when there’s a will, there’s a way 🙂

Note to self: 8 more kg to go!

busy bee.

It’s been two weeks since I last let you guys in on my wedding planning! No, it’s not because my other half and I are planning to bring forward our wedding date (hehe, Another Accidental Bride!) but coincidentally, both of us were really busy with work! Fortunately, we managed to squeeze some time over the past two weekends meeting vendors and paying our deposits.

Raihan from OnceUponImages

When Raihan texted me their studio address, I immediately told the other half, “Wedding vendors suka kerja kat tempat pelik-pelik eh?” because the previous time I met Nora Zee, her office was at Chiku Road and it was the first time I ever heard of such a road, heh. OnceUponImages’s studio was situated at Ubi Industrial Park and I thank my lucky stars that the other half is so gifted in looking for weird, unknown places because yours truly can’t read maps for nuts.

Talking to Raihan proved that we had made the right choice in engaging their videography services. He was very interested in how we met each other and crafted a cheeky smile because he said he already had some ideas on how to storyboard our video. He made us feel really comfortable and I was expecting myself to do most of the talking because the other half is kind of reserved but lo and behold, he did most of the talking while I just sat and listened, haha.

We had chosen the Diluso package, which was frankly, sufficient for us.

And I’m sure most of you have seen their latest work – Arin & Eldila – The Proposal.

Arin & Eldila – The Proposal from OnceUponImages on Vimeo.

Sweet hor. Raihan let us watch this on his iPad. Just when I was about to comment how sweet Arin was to come up with such an idea, the other half interjected my silent thoughts by saying,

“Proposal also need video? Then bila kahwin video lagi?”

Aiyoooooooo. For memories sake, cannot meh?

Hafizah from Purple Plumtree

Meeting Kak Fizah at her home proved my above mentioned theory right – Vendors suka tinggal tempat pelik-pelik (pelik by my standards because I stay in the West hiakhiak). We met her at Punggol and had the opportunity to browse through her latest works. I could tell the other half was impressed because he kept telling me gambar dia snap semua cantik!

She explained to us on the various packages (which are affordable, by the way) and we decided to go with The Wedding Affair, priced at $1500.

Until 31 May, she is having an anniversary promotion!

Which means our package is actually below our initial budget! Alhamdulillah, rezeki!

Aidil from Comel Molek

We met Abg Aidil yesterday at his cousin’s place at Tampines. His cousin’s place was so cosy and fantastically furnished that I couldn’t help but ogle at the awesome home decor while talking to him. It didn’t help that I have shifty eyes also, chet.

We loved talking to Abg Aidil. He gave us a lot of tips in choosing our wedding vendors and to watch out for hidden costs because some vendors do practise that. I love the fact that he is transparent about his business and he is genuine in making couples happy with Comel Molek’s services.

By the way, did you know that his cousin (who is also his business partner, Abg Lan) owns SEVEN cats? I am in love with cats. If I weren’t a teacher, I would be cat woman volunteering my time with the cat welfare society. And I have 4 kitties at home so to hear that Abg Lan brings home stray cats to call his own, made me love them even more.

Then Abg Aidil told us how the name Comel Molek came about.

Comel Molek is the name of Abg Lan’s first two cats!

If there was a hidden camera somewhere, I swear you would see how my face instantly lit up and how I grinned from ear to ear like a Cheshire Cat upon hearing that. I squeezed the the other half’s hand and said, “We made the right choice. It’s fate.”

Hahahaha. Merepek right.

We were ecstatic just listening to what Comel Molek has to offer and the other half dengan tak sabarnya told Abg Aidil that we wanted full ceiling deco with the centerpiece as well.

Groomzilla alert, yo!

So from now until September next year, we would have to think about what colour theme would work in our favour and which concept we want. I have a feeling I already have a confirmed concept in mind but we’ll see how it goes 🙂

Here are some of my personal favourites from Comel Meow Molek (oh how I love cats):

I love the drawers on the dais. Don’t ask why eh, I just love looking at them. Hahaha.

There you go. My update after two weeks. Eleventhoctober, this is all for youuuuu *starts singing Janet Jackson’s song*

Tomorrow I will update on my weight loss journey pulak, woohoo!

weight woes.

I am plus-sized.

I was a UK12 in 2008, then UK14 in 2010 and am currently a UK16. I was a real foodie and was proud to say that I live to eat. I didn’t know how serious my weight gain had been until one day in December 2012, I made a trip to the polyclinic because I wasn’t well and they measured my height and weight. What I found out came as a shock.

I was a hefty 90kg.

When I came back to work two days later, I had a casual chat with one of my colleagues who was lamenting to me how she needed to lose the baby weight after giving birth and she was at her heaviest while being pregnant with her second child.

“Don’t mind me asking ah. What was your weight when you were pregnant?” I asked. Curious mah.

“Oh. I was 90kg!”

That was it. A mini wake-up call for me. How can I, a supposedly-healthy young woman, be as heavy as a pregnant lady?

That same night, the other half brought up the topic of marriage and after much discussion, we came to a conclusion that the best date for our wedding would be in mid-December 2014. I couldn’t sleep after that because I was worried about how I would look because since young, I have always envisioned myself to be in a pretty, flowy white dress on my wedding day.

So I decided that I would start my weight loss journey on 3 January 2013. I made major changes to my eating habits and my daily lifestyle.

Alhamdulillah, I am now 78kg. Still on the heavy side, which means I have almost 19 months more to reach my goal weight of 55kg.

What did I do?

1) I went on a no-rice diet

This is obviously quite hard for me because it simply means that I had to say goodbye to my Chicken Rice from New Hawa, my Beef Fried Rice from Changi 897 and my Claypot Seafood Rice from Cahaya. But it’s mind over matter. I could still eat the good stuff but still eliminate the rice part. Within the first two weeks, I had lost 3 kg. So this diet definitely works for me.

2) No red meat, all white meat

This is a bit tricky to explain. I personally think red meat is okay to be consumed but my Mum said I should eat all white meat like fish and skinless chicken since I’m on a diet. Must ikut cakap Mama because she is the one doing all the cooking, hehe. This is quite an easy one as I have always been a chicken person.

3) Walk, walk, walk

Because I teach in the afternoon session and teach tuition after that, I find that I only have weekends to exercise. So I walk a lot during weekdays. I will alight from the bus one stop before my school’s bus stop and I will walk. Same goes when I get home for tuition. I will alight one bus stop before my house bus stop (walaupun dan malam and agak seram haha). I stopped taking the school’s lift and opt for stairs instead. Ni antara nak dgn tak nak je.

4) Eat according to time

Before I started dieting, I ate whatever I want, whenever I want. Now, I take breakfast, lunch and dinner and I keep track of the time I take each of the meals. My last meal of the day has to be before 7, latest 8. In between lunch and dinner I eat an apple or any types of fruits I can find in my staff room pantry (or my colleagues’ tables hehehe) because that is the only time I have my free periods and selit in my daily fruit intake.

5) Reduce food intake

For this one, I ikut sunnah Rasul: Makan sebelum lapar, berhenti sebelum kenyang. I no longer gorge myself sampai perut kenyang and nak meletup. Once I feel satisfied with I eat, I stop eating although the food is not finished yet. By reducing food intake, you are ‘training’ your stomach to take in less food. Now when I eat, makan sikit je dah kenyang. So this helps.

If you plan to go on a similar diet, please do a trial first to see if this diet really works for you. My friend went on the same diet but she couldn’t tahan the no-rice part and will get giddy spells if she doesn’t eat rice. Each body is biochemically different. I am helpless when it comes to diet supplements because it doesn’t work for me which is why I went on a no-rice one.
